Each Wednesday during August Craft Month, guild members will be demonstrating spinning at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. Please come along to visit! Also make sure to check out their list of events too.
August Craft Month should be longer!
There are so many great events on. Check out Craft NI for the full program of events which fibre and fabric lovers would be interested in. For example the Indigo Dyeing workshops with Catherine at Mottainai and Tapestry Weaving, August 6.
There are exhibitions and craft fairs such as Stitchery 2016 Exhibitions @ Top Floor Art and Essence of Form @ Down County Museum which includes some textile pieces. Also check out the The Fine & Dandy Market, Belfast.
This workshop with Katie Brown on Digital Fabrication looks like a chance to try some new techniques for textiles.
“This series of workshops will give participants the opportunity to experiment with a variety of digital fabrication processes and future making techniques and understand how we can use these alongside traditional making skills. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment and use these techniques to customise/repurpose/modify a wearable piece.”
For knitters there is a workshop about textural knitting with Edel McBride Stitches from the Wild @ Craft Village Derry and a free historical knitting workshop, If You Can Knit – You Can Do Your Bit! @ NI War Memorial Museum.
There’s much much more! Basket weaving, painting, glass… maybe every month should be craft month! See the full schedule here: http://www.craftni.org/programme-details/acm2016
